Peter ENGELS (° 1956) is together with Marc A. HUYBRECHTS the co-founder of the law office Huybrechts & Engels (1981) which later as Huybrechts, Engels, Craen & partners became elegis law firm in 2006.
In 1978 he graduated as Master of Laws at the Antwerp University (U.I.A.) and was admitted to the Antwerp Bar in 1981. He was Academic Assistant Insurance Law at the Antwerp University (1979-1983). As a practicing lawyer he continued his education in 1988 at the University of Southampton (Short Course on Maritime Law) and qualified in 2001 at the High Council of Justice obtaining the certificate to become a professional magistrate. He was appointed substitute Justice of the Peace of the Kapellen -Antwerp district in 2000.
With almost 4 decades of experience both as a litigator and business lawyer, Peter ENGELS is a senior partner at elegis law firm serving the national and international business community. His wide ranging core area of practice includes both national and international Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure, Company Law (M&A, Contract Law, Insolvency Law, Distribution and Franchising), Banking and Finance law, Real Estate and Construction Law, Environmental Law, Civil Law (Liability, Pecuniary Rights, International Family Law and Inheritance Law), as Werk as Commercial and Maritime Law.
