In 1985, Wouter Den Haerynck graduated magna cum laude as Master of Law at Antwerp University. In 1985-86, he attended courses on German Law in Tübingen and Düsseldorf, organised by the German Academic Exchange Service. In 1987, he participated in the Young European Lawyers’ Scheme in London, organised by the British Council. In 1990, he obtained a LL.M cum laude in Admiralty at Tulane University (USA).
After an internship in 1986 in Hamburg with Dr Dieter Raabe (Schön & Pflüger) and in 1987 in London with Bernard Eder QC (Essex Court), he became a member of the Antwerp Bar Association in 1987 and joined the law firm Huybrechts, Engels, Craen & Partners.
Wouter Den Haerynck specialises in insurance law, maritime and transport law as well as in international trade law. He has a vast experience in litigating in four languages (Dutch, French, English and German), both in national and international courts (including the NATO Tribunal), as well as in national and international arbitrations.
Besides individuals, his clients include several national and international insurance companies, banks and multinationals.
He is a member of the European Lawyers’ Association and of the Belgian Association for Maritime Law. He is the previous chief editor and now editor of the Journal for International Trade and Transport Law and the author of several legal publications, including:
